Tanzania is preparing to launch a free medical outreach programme in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province, aimed at strengthening cross border health cooperation and widening access to specialised healthcare in a region facing significant diagnostic and treatment challenges.
Tanzania’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Hamad Khamis Hamad, presented the proposal during talks with Cabo Delgado Governor Valige Tauabo, who welcomed the initiative and pledged the provincial government’s support. The proposed medical camp would offer free treatment and disease screening to residents of the province.
Benjamin Mkapa Hospital has already reviewed the initiative and its management is ready to deploy medical specialists once provincial authorities give formal approval, Hamad said. Governor Tauabo and the province’s Director of Health called the proposal timely and committed to working closely with the Tanzanian Embassy to ensure it benefits communities across Cabo Delgado.
As part of the preparations, a team of specialists from Benjamin Mkapa Hospital will travel to Pemba to assess healthcare needs on the ground and identify a suitable site for the outreach programme.
