The Guruè district of Zambézia is on track for a strong tea harvest, with production of green tea leaves expected to top 4,400 tons this season. This robust output is a collaborative effort from three key companies: Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Zambeze, Chá Magoma, and Chazeiras de Moçambique, which collectively manage an estimated 4,908 hectares of tea plantations.
According to José Manuel, the director of Guruè’s District Economic Activities Services, the companies have already produced over 3,000 tons of green tea leaves. The tea, which can be sold as either green tea (unfermented leaves) or processed for further consumption, is a significant part of the regional economy. The positive outlook for the season highlights the area’s potential as a major agricultural hub and a key player in Mozambique’s export market.
